Dance Data Project®’s 6th annual Leadership Transitions Data Byte details changes among leadership positions in the field that occurred in 2025 or have been announced for 2026 and later. The positions evaluated include Artistic Directors, Executive Directors, Resident Choreographers, Associate Artistic Directors, Rehearsal Directors, and School Directors at international and U.S.-based ballet companies, contemporary/modern companies, prominent schools/conservatories, dance venues, and dance festivals.
DDP’s analysis of the dance leadership landscape includes the evaluation and comparison of the tenure length of departing Executive and Artistic directors.
In line with past iterations, this year’s Data Byte also highlights directors who began as interim/acting directors and are now or will be promoted to a permanent leadership role between 2025 and 2026. DDP notes that not all announcements contain information regarding predecessors, successors, and/or current searches in a given role.
