The GEI is a survey instrument that concisely captures specific data points that can be used to analyze the state of gender equity. This instrument has been designed by the DDP research team that has extensive experience in this field. We reviewed over 2 dozen other instruments, documents, and reports from various well-regarded sources such as Charity Navigator*, Arizona State University, and the United Nations to identify and validate the critical elements of the GEI.
*The Charity Navigator Encompass Rating System is not a gender-specific index but is a useful model of an equity checklist and ranking methodology that specifically assesses the extent to which nonprofit organizations implement diverse, equitable, and inclusive practices.
