SUMMARY:Dance | NYC: Dance Workforce Resilience (DWR) Fund
DESCRIPTION:Made possible by the support of the Ford Foundation\, New York Community Trust\, and other generous funders\, the purpose of the Dance Workforce Resilience (DWR) Fund is to promote fair labor practices and addresses wage inequities and precarious working conditions for individual freelance dancers by providing awards tied to formal contracts to dancers within the New York City dance ecosystem. Currently in its pilot iteration\, the DWR Fund intends to: \n\nReduce the wage gap between individual freelance dancers and living wage standards in the NYC metropolitan area;\nIncentivize equitable labor practices by promoting the widespread use of contracts; and\nAddress systemic inequities by prioritizing the most underpaid and underprotected groups of dance workers including African\, Latina/o/x\, Asian\, Arab\, and Native American (ALAANA); disabled; immigrant; older adults; women-identifying; gender nonconforming/nonbinary/genderqueer; and transgender dancers.\n\nDance/NYC will award one-time flat grants of $1\,000 to individual freelance dancers in the metropolitan New York City area for contracted dance work that includes a public performance or presentation taking place within the NYC metro area\, completed between January 1\, 2025\, and April 30\, 2026. Rehearsals are recognized as work\, but projects are only eligible if the final performance or presentation occurs within the NYC metro area. Awards will be determined through a weighted lottery system. \nELIGIBILITY:  \n\nAre 18 or older;\nLive in the metropolitan NYC area (including the five boroughs of NYC\, as well as Nassau\, Rockland\, Suffolk\, and Westchester counties in New York State\, and Bergen and Hudson counties in New Jersey) and are able to provide proof of address;\nAre able to provide a fully executed contract that shows:\n\nThe contractor was:\n\nContracted for project-based dance work that includes a public performance or presentation; and\nContracted specifically as a dancer (note that choreographers are welcome to apply if they are also functioning as a dancer in the contracted work and can supply a contract to this effect).\nProvided via contract information on location\, pay rate\, contract period\, working hours and breaks\, payment terms\, dancer role\, independent contractor status\, and contractee information.\n\n\nThe contracted work occurred\n\nWithin the period of January 1\, 2025 to April 30\, 2026 with applications being accepted until March 2026\nThe performance or public presentation took place within the metropolitan NYC area (rehearsals alone do not qualify).\n\n\n\n\nAre able to provide the following information to process ACH bank transfers of awards:\n\nA complete W-9 Form; and\nBank Account Number and Routing Number.\n\nIf you are unable to receive funds via direct deposit\, your grant will be processed via check.\n\n\n\n\n\nYou are encouraged to apply if you are a current or past grantee of Dance/NYC or if you have not previously been funded by Dance/NYC.\nApplicants are not eligible to apply if they: \n\nAre under the age 18;\nLive outside of the metropolitan NYC area;\nAre being represented by a company (applications must be submitted by individual dancers);\nSubmit a contract including:\n\nwork distinguishing the applicant as a full time or ongoing employee (versus an independent contractor);\nwork as a non-dancer (e.g.\, choreographer who is not functioning as a dancer in the work\, arts administrator\, producer\, etc.);\nwork beyond the range of January 1\, 2025 to April 30\, 2026; or\nwork outside of the NYC metropolitan area.\n\n\n\nUPCOMING DEADLINE: March 3\, 2026

SUMMARY:Asian American Ballet Project: Choreographer Residency Program
DESCRIPTION:In 2027\, AABP will celebrate our fifth anniversary by launching a new program for Asian American choreographers. Over the past four years\, we’ve found that very few Asian American choreographers have the chance to create work on professional ballet dancers\, and even fewer have set ballets on entirely AANHPI casts. We hope to take one step toward changing that by inviting Asian American choreographers of all experience levels to create new work during a residency with AABP. Along the way\, our community will play an important role: they will select the showcase repertoire\, offer feedback during the rehearsal process\, and ultimately recognize one choreographer with an Audience Favorite Award to support their future artistic work. \nELIGIBILITY \nAABP urges all interested Asian American-identifying choreographers to apply. Interested choreographers do not need to have presented work before as we would like to open this opportunity to those who may not have other doors open to them. However\, experienced choreographers are also welcome and should include a work sample of a recently presented ballet if possible. Past AABP choreographers are also welcome to apply. There are no age or location restrictions although out-of-state choreographers should be aware that housing and per diem are not included in the residency resources. \n

SUMMARY:Howard Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:The George A. and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation is an independent foundation administered at Brown University. It awards a limited number of fellowships each year for independent projects in selected fields\, targeting its support specifically to early mid-career individuals\, who have completed at least one major project and demonstrate potential to be future leaders in their fields. Please consult eligibility requirements for further information. \nArtists and scholars supported by the Howard Foundation are expected to devote a substantial portion of time during the fellowship year to advancing new work. Fellowship funds may be used in combination with sabbatical leaves or other sources of support\, but this is not a requirement. \nA total of ten fellowships of $40\,000 each will be awarded in April 2027 for 2026- 2027 in the fields of: \n\nWriting for Performance or Choreography\nTheatre\, Dance\, and Performance Studies\n\nHoward Fellowships are intended primarily to provide artists\, scholars\, and writers with time to complete their work. They are not intended for publication subsidies\, for equipment purchase\, for preparation of exhibits\, or to support institutional programs. \nELIGIBILITY \nCandidates should be able to answer “yes” to each of the following questions. If “no” is the correct answer to any of them\, they are asked to explain on the application form what special circumstances might make them eligible anyway\, given the requirements for a Howard Fellowship. \n\nCan your current professional status appropriately be viewed as “early mid-career” as understood by the Howard Foundation?Normally candidates for a Howard Fellowship will have completed their formal studies within the past five to fifteen years of the application date and should also have successfully completed at least one major project beyond degree requirements that would be sufficient for the awarding of tenure at higher education institutions or for achieving comparable peer recognition in creative practice fields\, e.g.\, through publication or exhibition. If not classically trained\, an artist should be within the frame of 5-15 years as an active professional in their career. Creative practitioners are not required to hold academic appointments. Candidates who are already nationally and internationally recognized leaders in their fields as reflected by their promotion to full professor or by comparable standing in creative fields are not normally eligible for a Howard Fellowship.\nWould a Howard Fellowship provide you with time off from other responsibilities to work on your proposed project? Our support is particularly intended to augment paid sabbatical leaves. In the case of independent artists or scholars\, or those without paid leaves\, we would expect that a Howard Fellowship would enable them to devote a substantial block of time to the proposed project. Howard Foundation Fellowships are unrestricted awards for the sole purpose of aiding the intellectual and artistic development of the recipients. The Howard Foundation has no funds to pay indirect costs\, so any decision about payment of benefits on the stipend would be a matter for you to resolve with the appropriate officials at your institution.\nAre you\, regardless of your citizenship\, currently living and working in the United States or U.S. Territories?\nDoes your proposed project fall within one of the fields established for this year’s round of applications?Given the limits of our resources\, we must adhere strictly to the fields announced each year for project proposals.\n\nDEADLINE: November 1\, 2026
