SUMMARY:Asian American Ballet Project: Choreographer Residency Program
DESCRIPTION:In 2027\, AABP will celebrate our fifth anniversary by launching a new program for Asian American choreographers. Over the past four years\, we’ve found that very few Asian American choreographers have the chance to create work on professional ballet dancers\, and even fewer have set ballets on entirely AANHPI casts. We hope to take one step toward changing that by inviting Asian American choreographers of all experience levels to create new work during a residency with AABP. Along the way\, our community will play an important role: they will select the showcase repertoire\, offer feedback during the rehearsal process\, and ultimately recognize one choreographer with an Audience Favorite Award to support their future artistic work. \nELIGIBILITY \nAABP urges all interested Asian American-identifying choreographers to apply. Interested choreographers do not need to have presented work before as we would like to open this opportunity to those who may not have other doors open to them. However\, experienced choreographers are also welcome and should include a work sample of a recently presented ballet if possible. Past AABP choreographers are also welcome to apply. There are no age or location restrictions although out-of-state choreographers should be aware that housing and per diem are not included in the residency resources. \n

SUMMARY:Summer 2027 International Residency Exchange
DESCRIPTION:Atland and Moulin/Belle are partnering up to offer an international self-directed artist-in-residence program for one group of dance artists/collaborators in 2027. The selected artist group will be awarded a week-long research residency period in Périgord\, France from May 4-11\, 2027 and a week-long residency in Western Massachusetts in August 2027 (we ask your date preferences in the application)\, culminating in an invited public showing. Both residencies provide a remote setting\, allowing artists the opportunity to work in relative seclusion. The residencies offer free lodging and dance studio space for contemplation and productivity\, and is ideal for artistic research and collaboration. \nArtists are not required to produce a specific outcome during their residencies\, but are invited to share their work in community however they see fit for their process. This could take shape in a showing\, an artist talk\, a pop-up installation or an open studio. Artists are in charge of funding their own travel arrangements and groceries. The chosen artist group will be awarded a total of $500 to go towards travel. There is a small non-refundable application fee of $10. NOTE: Groups of up to five artists can be accommodated. Priority will be given to groups of 2 or more rather than individual artists. The lead artist applying is required to be a dancer/choreographer\, and the members of the collaborative can be dancers and/or working in different disciplines. The project must be movement-focused since the residencies are providing dance studios. \nPlease note that since Atland is located in a rural area\, your group will need to bring at least one vehicle to get around town\, to the studio\, and to the grocery store. At Moulin/Belle\, you will be within walking distance of the weekly green market\, grocery\, pharmacy\, butcher\, bakery\, etc. \nThe Residency Exchange Program Includes: \n\nFree accommodation and dance studio facilities at each artist residency\nOrientation and introduction meeting at each artist residency\nArtist presentation on the Atland & Moulin/Belle Residency websites and social media channels\nOpportunities for public presentations and artist talk at Atland\nTime and space for artistic research\, development and production\n$500 stipend (award will be given to the lead artist at the end of the August residency)\n\nELIGIBILITY \nWe encourage artist collaboratives to apply (priority will be given towards groups of 2-5). We can accommodate up to 5 artists (including the choreographer/lead artist)\, and the same artists need to attend both residencies. \nThis residency exchange is for artists working in the field of dance/movement. The work can be multidisciplinary and collaborators can work in fields other than dance\, but the studio we are providing is for dance research. Artists are in charge of bringing their own materials. \nDEADLINE: October 15\, 2026

SUMMARY:Kennesaw State University Choreographic Residency
DESCRIPTION:The Choreographic Residency program at KSU invites two nationally-emerging or mid-career choreographers to the Department of Dance each summer for a four-week residency to create two world premieres on the KSU Dance Company. Invited choreographers will audition and select dancers\, preferably for ten students\, for which they will create an original choreographic a 30-minute group work. The residency culminates in two fully produced pieces\, presented as a double bill in our state-of-the-art KSU Dance Theater. The department will announce the recipients of this residency in the spring. \nThe residency is designed to support the creative process of emerging or mid-career artists with an emphasis on innovation and movement invention. The goal of the residency is to increase students’ access to the professional practice of dance while further enhancing and enriching their dance education at KSU. The resident choreographers receive a $5\,000 honorarium. Travel and per diem are included in the honorarium. Housing will be provided by the University. The Dance Department will provide additional travel funds of up to $1\,000 to return to KSU at the beginning of the fall term for rehearsals and performances. \nThis program is made possible by the Eleo Pomare–Glenn Conner Dance Endowment\, which is funded by a generous gift from Jay and Debra Yunek. The Eleo Pomare-Glenn Conner Dance Endowment honors their late uncle\, Glenn Conner\, and his partner\, Eleo Pomare. SUMMARY:Howard Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:The George A. and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation is an independent foundation administered at Brown University. It awards a limited number of fellowships each year for independent projects in selected fields\, targeting its support specifically to early mid-career individuals\, who have completed at least one major project and demonstrate potential to be future leaders in their fields. Please consult eligibility requirements for further information. \nArtists and scholars supported by the Howard Foundation are expected to devote a substantial portion of time during the fellowship year to advancing new work. Fellowship funds may be used in combination with sabbatical leaves or other sources of support\, but this is not a requirement. \nA total of ten fellowships of $40\,000 each will be awarded in April 2027 for 2026- 2027 in the fields of: \n\nWriting for Performance or Choreography\nTheatre\, Dance\, and Performance Studies\n\nHoward Fellowships are intended primarily to provide artists\, scholars\, and writers with time to complete their work. They are not intended for publication subsidies\, for equipment purchase\, for preparation of exhibits\, or to support institutional programs. \nELIGIBILITY \nCandidates should be able to answer “yes” to each of the following questions. If “no” is the correct answer to any of them\, they are asked to explain on the application form what special circumstances might make them eligible anyway\, given the requirements for a Howard Fellowship. \n\nCan your current professional status appropriately be viewed as “early mid-career” as understood by the Howard Foundation?Normally candidates for a Howard Fellowship will have completed their formal studies within the past five to fifteen years of the application date and should also have successfully completed at least one major project beyond degree requirements that would be sufficient for the awarding of tenure at higher education institutions or for achieving comparable peer recognition in creative practice fields\, e.g.\, through publication or exhibition. If not classically trained\, an artist should be within the frame of 5-15 years as an active professional in their career. Creative practitioners are not required to hold academic appointments. Candidates who are already nationally and internationally recognized leaders in their fields as reflected by their promotion to full professor or by comparable standing in creative fields are not normally eligible for a Howard Fellowship.\nWould a Howard Fellowship provide you with time off from other responsibilities to work on your proposed project? Our support is particularly intended to augment paid sabbatical leaves. In the case of independent artists or scholars\, or those without paid leaves\, we would expect that a Howard Fellowship would enable them to devote a substantial block of time to the proposed project. Howard Foundation Fellowships are unrestricted awards for the sole purpose of aiding the intellectual and artistic development of the recipients. The Howard Foundation has no funds to pay indirect costs\, so any decision about payment of benefits on the stipend would be a matter for you to resolve with the appropriate officials at your institution.\nAre you\, regardless of your citizenship\, currently living and working in the United States or U.S. Territories?\nDoes your proposed project fall within one of the fields established for this year’s round of applications?Given the limits of our resources\, we must adhere strictly to the fields announced each year for project proposals.\n\nDEADLINE: November 1\, 2026

DESCRIPTION:The NYS Choreographers Initiative (NYSCI) is a program of the NYS DanceForce in partnership with the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). SUMMARY:Kit Modus In-person Choreographic Residency
DESCRIPTION:Selected artists enjoy an artists stipend\, travel reimbursement\, a cast of 5-10 professional dancers\, and ample rehearsal time\, plus access to studio space and accommodations in the artists’ apartment on the grounds of the Callanwolde estate where the company is in residence.\nChoreographic teams are welcome to apply\, although the artist stipend remains the same. In that case\, please fill out only one application for the whole team\, and include all relevant information.\nSelected creators individually negotiate the start date and duration of the residency.\nLength of work: roughly between 10-20 mins\nLength of residency is determined based on choreographers’ preference and length of proposed work. Most creators stay for 1-2 weeks.\nChoreographer’s stipend: $100 per minute of choreography. Example: 15-minute piece = $1500 plus airfare/gas reimbursement\, local travel\, and housing.\nChoreographers must facilitate one 1.5-hour workshop with the advanced students of Callanwolde School of Dance and/or area professional dancers.\n\nELIGIBILITY \n\nWe seek original works explicitly created for Kit Modus but will also consider a remount of an already-created work of great significance. If the latter is the case\, please include a link to that full work in your samples.\nOur team favors complex and demanding phrase work\, and while we recognize the value of process/research\, we are a movement-driven company presenting polished work.\nWe aim to give our artists unique career experiences they wouldn’t otherwise have access to. Therefore\, we lean towards commissioning creators from outside Atlanta.\n\n\nDEADLINE: Rolling

SUMMARY:Gross Family Prize: Charles and Joan Gross Family Foundation
DESCRIPTION:The next Gross Family Prize will be awarded to a choreographer and composer for the best original dance with original music which has had its premiere professional (by that we mean\, paid admissions) performance within the past two years. The next prize will be given in 2027 for works performed in 2025 and 2026. Applications for this prize must be received by December 31\, 2026 and the prize will be given in 2027 – as early as possible. \nEqual awards to the choreographer and composer ($20\,000 each – subject to increase or decrease at the discretion of the directors). \nTo encourage risk taking\, special notice will be given to those submissions where the creative team pushes out of their comfort zone\, e.g.: a hip-hop Swan Lake\, a jazz Ramayana. Although not the main criteria\, an important one. Obviously the interaction between the score and the dance are of paramount importance. We also love live music and want to encourage its use. \nLike our grant giving process we aim for simplicity. There will be no awards dinner with celebrity attendees. \nOnly checks (sorry\, no statuettes) will be sent to the winners. You’ll have to handle your own publicity as we cannot. \nELIGIBILITY \nUnfortunately we cannot accept submissions of works we have commissioned. \nAll submissions should include: \n\nDVD\nProgram showing the date and venue of the premiere\nBrief biographies\nContact information\n\nDEADLINE: December 31\, 2026
