SUMMARY:Kennesaw State University Choreographic Residency
DESCRIPTION:The Choreographic Residency program at KSU invites two nationally-emerging or mid-career choreographers to the Department of Dance each summer for a four-week residency to create two world premieres on the KSU Dance Company. Invited choreographers will audition and select dancers\, preferably for ten students\, for which they will create an original choreographic a 30-minute group work. The residency culminates in two fully produced pieces\, presented as a double bill in our state-of-the-art KSU Dance Theater. A panel of industry and university professionals will review and select choreographers. The department will announce the recipients of this residency in the spring. \nThe residency is designed to support the creative process of emerging or mid-career artists with an emphasis on innovation and movement invention. The goal of the residency is to increase students’ access to the professional practice of dance while further enhancing and enriching their dance education at KSU. The resident choreographers receive a $5\,000 honorarium. Travel and per diem are included in the honorarium. Housing will be provided by the University. The Dance Department will provide additional travel funds of up to $1\,000 to return to KSU at the beginning of the fall term for rehearsals and performances. \nThis program is made possible by the Eleo Pomare–Glenn Conner Dance Endowment\, which is funded by a generous gift from Jay and Debra Yunek. The Eleo Pomare-Glenn Conner Dance Endowment honors their late uncle\, Glenn Conner\, and his partner\, Eleo Pomare. Eleo Pomare was known for his artistic range and his innovative approach to choreography. He was a prolific choreographer whose work often focused on instances of social inequality and injustice. \nELIGIBILITY \nThe residency is designed to support the creative process of emerging or mid-career artists with an emphasis on innovation and movement invention. \nMust provide: \n\nA CV outlining choreographic history\nA description of the proposed work\nTwo complete works (not excerpts). SUMMARY:Howard Fellowship
DESCRIPTION:The George A. and Eliza Gardner Howard Foundation is an independent foundation administered at Brown University. It awards a limited number of fellowships each year for independent projects in selected fields\, targeting its support specifically to early mid-career individuals\, who have completed at least one major project and demonstrate potential to be future leaders in their fields. Please consult eligibility requirements for further information. \nArtists and scholars supported by the Howard Foundation are expected to devote a substantial portion of time during the fellowship year to advancing new work. Fellowship funds may be used in combination with sabbatical leaves or other sources of support\, but this is not a requirement. \nA total of ten fellowships of $40\,000 each will be awarded in April 2027 for 2026- 2027 in the fields of: \n\nWriting for Performance or Choreography\nTheatre\, Dance\, and Performance Studies\n\nHoward Fellowships are intended primarily to provide artists\, scholars\, and writers with time to complete their work. They are not intended for publication subsidies\, for equipment purchase\, for preparation of exhibits\, or to support institutional programs. \nELIGIBILITY \nCandidates should be able to answer “yes” to each of the following questions. If “no” is the correct answer to any of them\, they are asked to explain on the application form what special circumstances might make them eligible anyway\, given the requirements for a Howard Fellowship. \n\nCan your current professional status appropriately be viewed as “early mid-career” as understood by the Howard Foundation?Normally candidates for a Howard Fellowship will have completed their formal studies within the past five to fifteen years of the application date and should also have successfully completed at least one major project beyond degree requirements that would be sufficient for the awarding of tenure at higher education institutions or for achieving comparable peer recognition in creative practice fields\, e.g.\, through publication or exhibition. If not classically trained\, an artist should be within the frame of 5-15 years as an active professional in their career. Creative practitioners are not required to hold academic appointments. Candidates who are already nationally and internationally recognized leaders in their fields as reflected by their promotion to full professor or by comparable standing in creative fields are not normally eligible for a Howard Fellowship.\nWould a Howard Fellowship provide you with time off from other responsibilities to work on your proposed project? Our support is particularly intended to augment paid sabbatical leaves. In the case of independent artists or scholars\, or those without paid leaves\, we would expect that a Howard Fellowship would enable them to devote a substantial block of time to the proposed project. Howard Foundation Fellowships are unrestricted awards for the sole purpose of aiding the intellectual and artistic development of the recipients. The Howard Foundation has no funds to pay indirect costs\, so any decision about payment of benefits on the stipend would be a matter for you to resolve with the appropriate officials at your institution.\nAre you\, regardless of your citizenship\, currently living and working in the United States or U.S. Territories?\nDoes your proposed project fall within one of the fields established for this year’s round of applications?Given the limits of our resources\, we must adhere strictly to the fields announced each year for project proposals.\n\nDEADLINE: November 1\, 2026

SUMMARY:NYS Choreographers Initiative (NYSCI)
DESCRIPTION:The NYS Choreographers Initiative (NYSCI) is a program of the NYS DanceForce in partnership with the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). NYSCI is designed to help individual choreographers\, in all genres\, develop their choreographic skills by providing them with resources that are generally unavailable or unaffordable in their area. These resources include a $3\,000 stipend\, a minimum of 20 hours of creative time with professional dancers\, and the guidance of a mentor of their choice. \nThis is an opportunity for exploration and experimentation.  It is not to be used for preparing for a specific production or tour\, incorporating new dancers into old repertoire\, or finishing a work in progress. Each project is a choreographic lab\, designed to fit the specific needs of each artist. \nELIGIBILITY \nThe goal of the NYS Choreographers Initiative is to develop and support choreographic talent in the WNY\, Central NY/Capital District/North County\, and Hudson Valley/Long Island regions of New York State. This is an opportunity for individual artists – not collectives\, companies\, or organizations. Applicants must show evidence of commitment to producing original choreography\, in any dance genre. Video samples are critical for a strong proposal and should preferably include work that is less than 4 years old. Rehearsal footage is acceptable. (The application will include instructions for submitting video samples.) \nPreference is given to those applicants who: \n\nHave produced at least one full evening of work or three or more shared bills within the past five years\nSelect a mentor who is a New York State resident\n\nRestrictions \n\nLimited to choreographers who have consistently resided in the 55 eligible counties of New York State since January 2025 (see map above).\nCurrent NYS DanceForce members are not eligible to apply as choreographers; they can participate as mentors or performers.\nFormer recipients are not eligible to apply for two years subsequent to their award year.\nMatriculated students are not eligible.\nAt least half the studio time must happen in the artist’s home community.\n\nDEADLINE: December 2\, 2026
