In 2027, AABP will celebrate our fifth anniversary by launching a new program for Asian American choreographers. Over the past four years, we’ve found that very few Asian American choreographers have the chance to create work on professional ballet dancers, and even fewer have set ballets on entirely AANHPI casts. We hope to take one step toward changing that by inviting Asian American choreographers of all experience levels to create new work during a residency with AABP. Along the way, our community will play an important role: they will select the showcase repertoire, offer feedback during the rehearsal process, and ultimately recognize one choreographer with an Audience Favorite Award to support their future artistic work.

ELIGIBILITY

AABP urges all interested Asian American-identifying choreographers to apply. Interested choreographers do not need to have presented work before as we would like to open this opportunity to those who may not have other doors open to them. However, experienced choreographers are also welcome and should include a work sample of a recently presented ballet if possible. Past AABP choreographers are also welcome to apply. There are no age or location restrictions although out-of-state choreographers should be aware that housing and per diem are not included in the residency resources.
