This report is Dance Data Project® (DDP)’s inaugural report examining the gender equity of performance programming and Artistic Directors at international dance festivals. It builds upon DDP’s previous festival research, which primarily focused on U.S. festivals or a mix of U.S. and international festivals.
DDP’s 2023 U.S. Dance Festival Report, analyzed 39 festivals and 1007 works, while this report expands to 69 festivals and 1096 works, marking a significant increase in scope. Additionally, for the first time, DDP has tracked the number of times a piece was performed, offering deeper insight into programming trends beyond a simple count of unique works. By focusing exclusively on festivals based outside the U.S., this report establishes a foundation for ongoing analysis of global gender equity in dance festival programming.
