Gross Family Prize: Charles and Joan Gross Family Foundation

December 31

The next Gross Family Prize will be awarded to a choreographer and composer for the best original dance with original music which has had its premiere professional (by that we mean, paid admissions) performance within the past two years. The next prize will be given in 2027 for works performed in 2025 and 2026. Applications for this prize must be received by December 31, 2026 and the prize will be given in 2027 – as early as possible.

Equal awards to the choreographer and composer ($20,000 each – subject to increase or decrease at the discretion of the directors).

To encourage risk taking, special notice will be given to those submissions where the creative team pushes out of their comfort zone, e.g.: a hip-hop Swan Lake, a jazz Ramayana. Although not the main criteria, an important one. Obviously the interaction between the score and the dance are of paramount importance. We also love live music and want to encourage its use.

Like our grant giving process we aim for simplicity. There will be no awards dinner with celebrity attendees.

Only checks (sorry, no statuettes) will be sent to the winners. You’ll have to handle your own publicity as we cannot.

ELIGIBILITY

Unfortunately we cannot accept submissions of works we have commissioned.

All submissions should include:

  • DVD
  • Program showing the date and venue of the premiere
  • Brief biographies
  • Contact information

DEADLINE: December 31, 2026
